Lewis Ludlow Reflects on Captaincy Loss and Upcoming Testimonial Season

Lewis Ludlow, a flanker for Gloucester, expressed that losing the club captaincy last August was a difficult experience, describing it as brutal. He served as captain from 2020 to 2025, making him the longest-serving captain in the club's history, before being replaced by Tomos Williams for the 2025-26 season.

During an interview, Ludlow shared that while he anticipated the change, he was surprised by the timing of the announcement. He focused on supporting Williams and maintaining a positive influence within the team. Despite the transition, teammates still refer to him as 'Skip,' and he has managed to maintain a leadership role alongside Williams.

Ludlow has also captained England in two matches, which remain his only international appearances. He reflected on the honor of leading his country and expressed gratitude for the experience, despite facing challenges, including a red card that led to a suspension. As he prepares for his 14th season at Gloucester, Ludlow aims to surpass Nick Wood's club record of 277 appearances and raise funds for two charities during his testimonial season.
