Leylah Fernandez Exits Cincinnati Open After Second Round Loss
Canada's Leylah Fernandez was eliminated from the Cincinnati Open on Sunday, losing in the second round to China's Xiyu Wang with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Fernandez, who received a bye in the first round, initially performed well, breaking Wang's serve twice in the first set. However, Wang rebounded strongly, breaking Fernandez five times in the subsequent sets to secure the victory.
Wang entered the match with momentum, having won her qualifying matches and her first-round match without losing a game. Fernandez's recent performance included a loss in the Round of 16 at the National Bank Open, where she was defeated by Naomi Osaka. The only remaining Canadian in the Cincinnati Open singles bracket is Felix Auger-Aliassime, who won his match against Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier on Sunday.
