Liam Lawson Disqualified from F1 Qualifying in Mexico Due to Technical Breach
Liam Lawson has been disqualified from the qualifying results for the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix, losing his ninth-place starting position. The disqualification was due to a technical infringement concerning the MGU-K rampdown rate after he completed his fastest lap in Q2.
The FIA determined that Lawson did not comply with the required procedures after his fastest lap, resulting in an immediate drop in MGU-K power output from 350kW to zero, which violates technical regulations. The regulations mandate a gradual reduction of electrical power, and Lawson's failure to lift off the throttle immediately after crossing the control line led to this breach.
Despite Racing Bulls arguing that the infringement did not provide a performance advantage, the stewards emphasized that non-compliance with technical regulations warrants disqualification regardless of any potential gain. Consequently, Lawson will start from the back of the grid on Sunday, while Racing Bulls maintains a 33-point lead in the constructors' standings.
