Liam Smith Faces GBH Charge Following Alleged Attack
Liam Smith, a 38-year-old former world champion boxer from Liverpool, is facing a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged attack on a concierge worker. The incident reportedly occurred on September 13 at The Blade tower block in Manchester.
During a court hearing at Manchester Crown Court, it was stated that Smith allegedly punched the victim, Laurent Nke, while he was lying on the floor. The court was informed that the incident was captured on CCTV, showing Smith delivering strikes to Nke's head and pushing past others to continue the assault. Nke sustained serious facial injuries and required hospitalization.
Smith, who previously held the WBO light-middleweight title, was granted bail with conditions, including not contacting the victim or entering Manchester except for court-related matters. The next hearing is scheduled for November 28, where Smith is expected to enter his plea. A provisional trial date has been set for March 2028.
