Lincoln McCarthy's Career Outlook Improves After Injury Challenges
Brisbane Lions forward Lincoln McCarthy is anticipated to extend his playing career into 2027 after facing significant injury challenges over the past two seasons.
McCarthy's future had been uncertain, with the club evaluating options for several players, including Luke Beecken and Conor McKenna. Brisbane's list manager, Dom Ambrogio, indicated that McCarthy is likely to return, as discussions about his pre-season role and comfort level are nearing resolution.
Since joining the Lions from Geelong in 2019, McCarthy has participated in 130 games. He played in the 2023 Grand Final but suffered an ACL injury early in the 2024 season, which sidelined him for the rest of that year. After missing the entire 2025 season due to injuries, he returned for the 2026 season but did not play after Round 9.
