Lionel Messi has announced his retirement from international soccer, marking the end of his illustrious career with Argentina. The announcement was made via social media on Monday, following his final match in the 2026 World Cup final against Spain.

Throughout his time with the national team, Messi earned 125 goals in 207 appearances, leading in several all-time records for Argentina. His retirement decision came after much contemplation, particularly following the recent passing of his father, Jorge Messi, on August 8.

Messi debuted for Argentina in 2005 and has since achieved significant milestones, including winning the 2022 World Cup and two Copa America titles.
