Lionel Messi Eyes Three Titles with Inter Miami After Leagues Cup Exit
Inter Miami's early departure from the Leagues Cup marks a setback, but the team remains in contention for three additional trophies this season. Lionel Messi and his teammates began 2026 aiming for five titles, and despite losing two, they still have the Supporters' Shield, MLS Cup, and Campeones Cup within reach.
Currently positioned second in the Eastern Conference, Miami is in the running for the Supporters' Shield, while the MLS Cup offers a chance to reclaim the championship they won last year. Additionally, as the defending MLS Cup champions, they are set to compete in the Campeones Cup against Cruz Azul on September 16 in Miami.
This recent exit follows another early elimination from the Concacaf Champions Cup earlier in the year. Since joining Inter Miami, Messi has already contributed to three trophies, including the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters' Shield, and played a key role in the 2025 MLS Cup victory, which marked his 47th career trophy.
