Lionel Scaloni Set to Remain Argentina Coach Until 2030 World Cup
Lionel Scaloni is expected to continue as the head coach of Argentina until the 2030 World Cup, having reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Argentine Football Association (AFA). This agreement comes as Scaloni's current contract was set to expire in December.
Discussions regarding the extension began when Scaloni returned to Argentina for the FIFA window in September and October, culminating in an agreement on Wednesday. Although the deal has yet to be officially signed, an announcement is anticipated soon, possibly during the November international window.
Scaloni's new contract will involve rebuilding the team following Lionel Messi's retirement. Argentina will begin this transition with two friendlies in November against Uruguay and Costa Rica. The team is already qualified as a host for the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Paraguay and Uruguay, and Scaloni will also lead the squad in South American qualifiers as a wild card.
