Lions' Defensive Coordinator Calls for Change Amid Struggles
The Detroit Lions currently hold a 2-2 record, largely due to their underperforming defense. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard acknowledged this issue during a press conference, stating that substantial changes are necessary.
Sheppard expressed his frustration, noting that the team is not where they expected to be after training camp. He highlighted the defensive line's strong performance but criticized the rest of the defense for failing to capitalize on their efforts. He pointed out that the Lions have the worst defense in the league, allowing an average of 423.8 yards per game, which is significantly higher than the team ranked 31st.
While Sheppard is optimistic about the potential return of safety Brian Branch, he remains concerned about players making mistakes, such as lining up incorrectly. He believes that a more aggressive approach is needed to overcome these deficiencies.
