Lions GM Discusses Terrion Arnold Release and Player Extensions

Detroit Lions General Manager Brad Holmes held a season-opening news conference in Allen Park, Michigan, where he discussed the team's decision to release cornerback Terrion Arnold following his arrest on serious charges. Holmes described the situation as unfortunate and emphasized the need to focus on the current roster.

Arnold, who was arrested in June, has since signed with the Seattle Seahawks and is currently on the commissioner’s exempt list while his legal issues are under review. The Lions released him shortly after his arrest and have since made moves to bolster their defensive backfield, including re-signing Rock Ya-Sin and drafting Keith Abney II.

Holmes also mentioned the team's interest in extending contracts for tight end Sam LaPorta and safety Brian Branch, both of whom are dealing with injuries. LaPorta is recovering from surgery, while Branch is on injured reserve. Despite these challenges, Holmes expressed optimism about retaining both players as they enter the final years of their rookie contracts.
