Lions Release Defensive Lineman Levi Onwuzurike
The Detroit Lions announced the release of defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike from their active roster on Friday.
Onwuzurike, a second-round draft pick in 2021, has struggled with injuries, missing two of the last five seasons. He was sidelined for the entire previous season due to a torn ACL and missed the 2022 season because of a back injury. If he had remained on the roster through Week 1, his entire salary for the season would have been guaranteed.
In his career, Onwuzurike has recorded 68 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 42 regular season games, along with five tackles in four playoff appearances. The Lions have also added defensive lineman Tyre West to their practice squad.
