Lions Sign Josh Dobbs to Replace Teddy Bridgewater

The Detroit Lions have announced the signing of quarterback Josh Dobbs to a one-year contract after Teddy Bridgewater was placed on the reserve/retired list.

Dobbs will receive $1.425 million, with $475,000 guaranteed, and is expected to serve as the backup to Jared Goff. Currently, the only other quarterback on the Lions roster is undrafted free agent Luke Altmyer, who played at Illinois last season.

At 31 years old, Dobbs was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Over his career, he has played for several teams, including the Jaguars, Browns, Titans, Cardinals, Vikings, 49ers, and Patriots. In 2022, he spent a brief period on the Lions' practice squad before joining Tennessee's active roster and has appeared in 27 regular-season games, starting 15 of them.
