Lions to Start Joshua Dobbs at Quarterback Against Commanders
The Detroit Lions have announced that Joshua Dobbs will start at quarterback this Saturday against the Washington Commanders, as Jared Goff will not participate in the game. This decision was confirmed by head coach Dan Campbell during a press conference.
Last week, rookie Luke Altmyer started and played 67 percent of the offensive snaps, while Dobbs took the remaining 33 percent. Campbell indicated that the competition for the backup role remains open, with plans for both Dobbs and Altmyer to receive equal playing time.
In his preseason debut, Altmyer completed 13 of 22 passes for 130 yards, including one touchdown and two interceptions. Dobbs, who joined the Lions on August 9 after Teddy Bridgewater's retirement, had a performance of 4 of 8 for 32 yards against Cincinnati. Campbell noted that the distribution of practice reps has been influenced by Dobbs' veteran experience compared to Altmyer's status as a rookie.
