Lisa Nandy Advocates for Women's Football Amid U20 World Cup Controversy
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has expressed that women's footballers should not face repercussions from a possible boycott of the upcoming Under-20 Women's World Cup, which is set to take place in Poland from September 5 to 27. Poland's football authorities have confirmed they have not received any notifications regarding withdrawals from European teams.
The threat of a boycott comes from Uefa and its 55 member associations, who are protesting against FIFA President Gianni Infantino's proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup. Despite this, Poland remains committed to hosting the tournament, emphasizing the importance of providing a platform for young athletes.
While Nandy has called for Infantino's resignation over his controversial proposal, she clarified that she does not support a boycott of the tournament. She believes such actions unfairly impact athletes who are not responsible for the underlying issues and advocates for a resolution that prioritizes the interests of fans and players alike.
