LIV Golf Cancels Season-Ending Team Championship Event
LIV Golf has announced the cancellation of its season-ending team championship event, which was set to take place next week in Michigan. This decision comes as the league prepares to conclude its tumultuous season at LIV Golf Indianapolis this weekend.
The event was originally scheduled for August 27-30 at The Cardinal at Saint John's in Plymouth, Michigan, with 13 teams competing for a $40 million prize pool. Instead, LIV will now crown the individual and team champions at the Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Indiana, from August 20-23.
This marks the second tournament cancellation following the withdrawal of financial backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil indicated that the cancellation allows the league to focus on future operations, which may involve a new funding deal with BC Partners. LIV is reportedly facing financial challenges, including outstanding payments to various contractors and a lawsuit from a vendor over unpaid invoices.
