LIV Golf Faces Critical Deadline Amid Player Uncertainty
LIV Golf is at a critical juncture as it attempts to secure player commitments for its revamped tour, known as LIV 2.0. The organization, which concluded its 2026 season prematurely in August, has faced significant operational challenges, including layoffs and ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
Despite the urgency, only around 15 players have shown interest in remaining with LIV Golf, falling short of the 30 to 40 players needed for viability, as indicated by its financial backer, BC Partners. The deadline for securing these commitments was set for October 25, which has since passed, prompting an extension until the end of the week.
Several high-profile players have opted out of the new tour, while others are negotiating for better financial terms from the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which previously financed LIV Golf. The PIF, now considered LIV Golf's senior lender, has the authority to wind down operations if a deal is not reached by October 30. The situation remains precarious as the organization seeks to navigate these complex negotiations.
