LIV Golf Secures New Investor for 2027 Season
LIV Golf has confirmed that it has secured an unnamed lead investor to sustain its operations in 2027 after losing financial backing from the Saudi Public Investment Fund earlier this year.
The Saudi PIF announced in April that it would cease its financial support for the league, which raised concerns about its future. LIV Golf's CEO Scott O'Neil stated that a signed agreement with the new investor has been approved by the board, with the transaction expected to finalize in September.
Details regarding the investment amount have not been disclosed. The league plans to make its players majority equity holders, a first for a major global sports league. Starting next season, LIV Golf will reduce its events to 10, with five taking place in the United States and five internationally. The competition has faced challenges, including the postponement of its New Orleans event and a recent alliance formed between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour with the Asian Tour.
