Liverpool Landlady Reflects on Perfect Pub Ahead of Retirement
Carol Ross, the landlady of The Roscoe Head in Liverpool, is preparing to retire after nearly three decades of managing the traditional alehouse. The pub has been shortlisted for the Campaign for Real Ale's (Camra) National Pub of the Year, joining three other contenders for the prestigious title.
The Roscoe Head, which has been in the same family since 1981, is one of only five pubs to appear in every edition of Camra's Good Beer Guide since its inception in 1974. Ross emphasizes the importance of serving quality cask ale, which she believes is the key to the pub's success and longevity.
As she approaches her retirement, Ross expresses mixed emotions, acknowledging the hard work that comes with running a successful pub while also looking forward to a well-deserved break. She reflects on the strong community ties and loyal clientele that have contributed to the pub's reputation as a hidden gem.
