Liverpool Signs Ronald Araujo on Season-Long Loan from Barcelona
Liverpool has completed the signing of Ronald Araujo, a centre-back from Uruguay, on a season-long loan from Barcelona. The 27-year-old defender, who can also play as a right-back, joined Barcelona in 2018 from Boston River and has made over 200 appearances for the club.
The loan agreement includes an option for Liverpool to purchase Araujo. He expressed enthusiasm about joining Liverpool, highlighting the club's rich history and his eagerness to start playing. Araujo's move comes as Liverpool seeks to bolster its defense following the departure of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid.
Last season, Araujo faced limited playing time under Barcelona's new manager Hansi Flick, making only 11 league starts. He has been dealing with personal challenges, including mental health issues, but returned to training earlier this year. Araujo has also represented Uruguay 27 times since his debut in 2020.
