
Local Surfers Shine at Itacoatiara Big Wave Event
The Itacoatiara Big Wave tow surfing event took place on August 25, where local surfers from Rio de Janeiro excelled in tough conditions. Lucas Chumbo, Pedro Scooby, and Michelle Des Bouillons emerged victorious in their respective categories.
In the men's doubles competition, Chumbo and Scooby showcased their prowess, scoring the highest waves across four heats. Chumbo achieved scores of 9.57 and 9.83, while Scooby recorded a 9.87, the top score of the day, along with a 9.77 in the semifinal. Their combined total of 14.43 secured them first place, surpassing Willyam Santana and Gabriel Sampaio in second, and Feilpe Lacerda and Benito Dagostini in third.
In the women's event, Des Bouillons delivered an impressive performance with a 9-point tube ride and a 7.37, totaling 16.37 to win against Michaela Fregonese and Dominique Charrier. The event featured 24 surfers in the men's doubles and six in the women's category.
