London Irish Aims for 2027 Return to Professional Rugby Following Takeover
London Irish is working towards a return to professional rugby, potentially as soon as next season, following a takeover by new owner Steve Daniels. The club has been inactive since entering administration in June 2023.
Daniels' Gamechanger Investments acquired the club's name and brand from previous owners, aiming to reestablish London Irish in the sport. Chief executive Jamie Balls expressed a desire to join the Championship, the second tier of English rugby, at the earliest opportunity, while also considering the club's previous ambitions to join the United Rugby Championship.
There are ongoing discussions about the club's future home ground, with options including Hazelwood, its former training base. Daniels, who has a background in the energy sector, emphasizes building a sustainable club rather than relying on wealthy backers. The club also aims to revive its women's team, with aspirations to reach Premiership Women's Rugby.
