London Submits Bid for 2029 World Athletics Championships
London has officially submitted its bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, with the London Stadium as the proposed venue. This stadium, located in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, was constructed for the 2012 Olympics and has been utilized for the London Diamond League meeting for the past four years.
The bid is backed by Athletic Ventures, which includes UK Athletics, London Marathon Events, and the Great Run Company. The final documents have been sent to World Athletics, and the host city will be announced in September. A feasibility study indicated that the event could generate a £400 million boost to the economy, with the UK government expressing its support for the bid.
West Ham United, the football club that plays at the London Stadium, has also shown its support for the bid. UK Athletics CEO Jack Buckner highlighted the significance of hosting the championships as part of the UK's Olympic legacy. West Ham confirmed their collaboration with Athletics Ventures to enhance the stadium experience for supporters during the event.
