L'Osteria Co-Founder Klaus Rader Dies in Mallorca Rally Crash
Klaus Rader, the co-founder of the L'Osteria restaurant chain, died in a crash during the 550 Challenge Mallorca rally on Friday. The 63-year-old entrepreneur and racing enthusiast was driving a Porsche 911 GT3 RS when the vehicle veered off the road on a mountain pass between Pollenҫa and Lluc, falling into a ravine.
Rader was pronounced dead at the scene, while his co-driver, Christina Ettel, sustained serious spinal cord injuries. Emergency services had to navigate challenging terrain in the Serra de Tramuntana to recover the occupants. The 550 Challenge Mallorca is a three-day motorsport event featuring 14 timed stages on closed roads, covering over 550 kilometers.
In light of the tragedy, event organizers canceled the remainder of the rally and expressed their condolences to Rader's family. They emphasized that respect and solidarity take precedence over competition in such difficult times. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Spanish authorities. Rader is survived by his wife and four children.
