Lou Trivino Chooses Free Agency After Phillies Designation

Lou Trivino, a veteran reliever, has elected to become a free agent after being designated for assignment by the Philadelphia Phillies. This decision was noted in the MLB.com transaction log.

Trivino was one of three players designated by the Phillies, alongside catcher Payton Henry and Nolan Hoffman, who was traded to the Royals. The team made these moves to create space on the 40-man roster for new players Luis Arraez, Caleb Kilian, and Brooks Raley.

Trivino, 34, had recently returned from the injured list due to a thoracic muscle spasm but was not reintegrated into the bullpen. He has made five appearances in the MLB this season, allowing 10 runs over six innings. In contrast, he performed well in Triple-A, posting a 1.19 ERA. Henry, who joined the MLB roster in late July, has not played in a game and is expected to return to Triple-A after clearing waivers.
