Louis Rees-Zammit Advocates Against Artificial Pitches in Rugby
Louis Rees-Zammit, a prominent player for Wales and Bristol, has urged for the elimination of artificial playing surfaces in professional rugby. His call to action follows a match against Saracens, where he sustained an injury, as evidenced by a photo he shared on social media showing a scarred leg.
The match ended with Bristol losing 30-7 to Saracens, who utilize an artificial pitch. Rees-Zammit's concerns echo those of Bristol's director of rugby, Pat Lam, who opted not to field three key players due to the pitch conditions at StoneX Stadium, citing their previous injuries.
Lam has previously expressed his disapproval of artificial surfaces, linking them to increased injuries among players. He reiterated his stance after a recent match, emphasizing the risks associated with such pitches.
