LSU Coach Lane Kiffin Supports D.J. Pickett's Choice of No. 5 Jersey
LSU coach Lane Kiffin confirmed his support for cornerback D.J. Pickett wearing the No. 5 jersey, which was previously worn by Jayden Daniels, during a press conference in Baton Rouge. This decision comes despite objections and legal threats from Daniels, who was the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner.
Kiffin stated that Pickett was promised the number when he signed with LSU in December 2024. Pickett, who has worn No. 5 since the start of August camp, expressed his commitment to the number, mentioning he has worn it since childhood. Daniels, now with the Washington Commanders, indicated that the situation would not distract him from his NFL preparations, expressing gratitude for his time at LSU.
LSU's official store has removed replicas of Daniels' jersey from sale, while the university has not publicly commented on the ongoing dispute. The situation raises questions about the use of Daniels' name and likeness in university promotions, as his attorney has requested LSU cease such practices.
