Luca Marini Analyzes Honda's Qualifying Challenges in MotoGP

The 2026-spec Honda motorcycle has shown competitive performance in race conditions, yet its qualifying results have been inconsistent. Luca Marini suggests that Honda's struggles during qualifying are due to rival manufacturers making more significant gains from Friday practice to the qualifying sessions.

Despite improvements following a successful 2025 season, Honda has faced challenges in matching the performance of its European competitors. Marini, who has been Honda's top points scorer in 2026, has only advanced to Q2 twice in the first 11 rounds, indicating a struggle in one-lap performance.

Marini noted that while he improves his own performance in Q1, other riders seem to find even more speed. He expressed uncertainty about whether competitors are intentionally hiding their pace on Fridays or simply unlocking additional speed before qualifying. His teammate, Joan Mir, has also faced difficulties, citing issues with dirty air affecting his qualifying performance and acknowledging that the current package does not allow for contention for pole positions.
