Lucas Auer Claims Victory in Dramatic DTM Race at Hockenheim
Lucas Auer, driving for Landgraf-Mercedes, secured victory in the first DTM race at Hockenheim, which featured intense competition and significant drama. Thomas Preining, who drives for Manthey-Porsche, missed the chance to clinch the championship early, while Maro Engel faced setbacks during the race.
Mirko Bortolotti finished in second place, followed by Marco Wittmann in third, who is now a close contender for the title. The race was marked by a collision involving Engstler, who crashed into a wall after contact with Auer, leading to a brief safety car period. Engstler was taken to the medical center for evaluation but was reported to be in stable condition.
Engel's pit stop misfortune, where a wheel jammed, caused him to lose valuable time, dropping him to fourth place. Despite this, he managed to recover some positions later in the race. Preining remains the championship leader but will face competition from Engel and Wittmann in the final race scheduled for Sunday.
