Lucy Charles-Barclay Withdraws from IRONMAN 70.3 Worlds to Focus on Kona

Lucy Charles-Barclay, the reigning IRONMAN 70.3 world champion, has announced her withdrawal from this year's event in Nice. The British athlete, who has previously won the 70.3 title twice and secured a victory in Kona in 2023, is focusing on her preparation for the IRONMAN World Championship.

Charles-Barclay explained that despite being healthy and training effectively, she faced a difficult decision regarding her participation in Nice. With only 28 days between the two races, she expressed concern that competing in Nice would hinder her ability to perform at her best in Kona. She emphasized the importance of being fully prepared for the championship, stating that she did not want to risk leaving part of her performance behind in Nice.

Earlier this year, Charles-Barclay underwent surgery to address a painful condition affecting her Achilles tendon. Following her recovery, she achieved a strong performance at IRONMAN Lanzarote, which helped secure her spot in Kona. She is now focused on redeeming herself after a challenging experience in last year's Kona race, where she had to withdraw with less than ten miles remaining.
