Luis Castillo Joins White Sox in Trade with Mariners
The Chicago White Sox have completed a trade to acquire right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners, with the announcement made late Saturday. In exchange, the Mariners receive right-handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catcher prospect Boston Smith.
Castillo, who is 33 years old, has faced challenges this season, recording a career-worst FIP of 4.57. Despite this, he has a solid overall record, including three All-Star selections and a career ERA+ of 115. He is expected to bolster the White Sox rotation, which has been trending downwards, and is under contract through the 2027 season with a vesting option for 2028.
The White Sox are currently leading the American League Central and sought to enhance their pitching staff ahead of the trade deadline. Meanwhile, the Mariners, who are also in playoff contention, opted to trade Castillo to address other roster needs while gaining financial relief. The deal allows Seattle to save a significant amount in salary, potentially up to $40.95 million, depending on Castillo's performance.
