Luis Rengifo Sustains Knee Injury During Game Against Rays
Luis Rengifo, an outfielder and infielder for the Padres, suffered a right knee sprain during a 7-6 loss to the Rays on Saturday. Following the injury, he will return to San Diego for further evaluation.
The injury occurred in the seventh inning when Rengifo's knee buckled due to an errant throw. After remaining on the field for a few minutes, he was taken off on a cart. Xander Bogaerts replaced him, and Jake Cronenworth shifted positions to accommodate the change.
Rengifo, who has primarily played left field since joining the Padres, has had a mixed season. After a challenging start with the Brewers, he signed with the Padres and has shown improvement, hitting .296 with four home runs in 142 plate appearances. The Padres are currently contending for a Wild Card spot but may need to place Rengifo on the injured list due to his injury.
