Luis Robert Jr. Joins Orioles, John Schreiber Heads to Yankees
In recent moves within the American League East, outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is set to join the Baltimore Orioles, and reliever John Schreiber will be heading to the New York Yankees, according to multiple MLB insiders.
Both players were placed on outright waivers on Sunday by the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, respectively. This allows teams across MLB to claim them, and they will be eligible for the postseason if their new teams qualify. Robert, who has a guaranteed salary of over $5 million for the remainder of the season and a $20-million option for 2027, has had a challenging season with the Mets, posting a .229 batting average with 10 home runs over 56 games. However, he has recently improved, hitting six home runs with a 1.015 OPS in his last 17 games.
On the other hand, Schreiber, who has a 3.65 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 49.1 innings this season, is set to become a free agent after this year. The 32-year-old has been a reliable relief pitcher, maintaining an ERA below 3.86 in each of the past five seasons.
