Luis Severino Expected to Miss Remainder of Season
Mark Kotsay, the manager of the Athletics, has indicated that pitcher Luis Severino is not expected to return for the remainder of the season. This update comes as Severino is not progressing quickly enough in his throwing program.
Severino was placed on the 15-day injured list in late May due to a shoulder capsule strain and subsequently moved to the 60-day injured list in June. He has not participated in any rehabilitation games, and with the Athletics out of playoff contention, there is no urgency to rush his return.
During the 2026 season, Severino made 12 starts, achieving a 4.16 ERA. His performance was notably affected by home games, where he recorded a 5.33 ERA. Despite these challenges, he has been a reliable pitcher for the team, contributing significantly since joining the Athletics. Severino has a player option for the 2027 season, which he may reconsider given his current situation.
