Luka Doncic Experiences Fifth Ownership Change in Five Years
Luka Doncic has encountered his fifth ownership change in five years, following the recent sale of the Los Angeles Lakers. This change comes after the Lakers were sold for the second time in less than a year, adding to Doncic's challenges in the NBA.
Initially, Doncic played under Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, until Cuban sold a controlling interest to Sheldon Adelson's family in December 2023. Following this, Doncic was traded to the Lakers in January 2025, where he began working with Jeanie Buss, who later sold the team to Mark Walter in the summer of 2025.
Walter's ownership was marked by a notable relationship with Doncic, including a celebratory outing to a Backstreet Boys concert. However, a federal investigation into Walter may have led to the Lakers' recent sale to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner. Despite securing a three-year, $165 million contract extension, Doncic faces uncertainty with the team's frequent ownership changes and roster adjustments, including the loss of LeBron James and the addition of several new players.
