Lyndon Faulkner Appointed New Chair of Welsh Rugby Union
Lyndon Faulkner has been appointed as the new chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), succeeding Richard Collier-Keywood. His official start date will be during the WRU's annual general meeting on November 22.
Faulkner, a former player for Newport and Pontypool, is also known for his successful business career in the United States. He is the nephew of renowned Welsh rugby player Tony 'Charlie' Faulkner. His appointment comes as the WRU plans to reduce the professional tier of the game from four to three teams, affecting west Wales clubs Ospreys and Scarlets.
The WRU has expressed confidence in Faulkner's ability to bridge the community and professional aspects of the sport while also engaging with the business sector. Faulkner has stated his commitment to listening to stakeholders and addressing the challenges facing Welsh rugby.
