Macron Promises Accelerated Military Support to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that French President Emmanuel Macron has committed to speeding up the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine. This promise follows a nearly two-hour conversation focused on Ukraine's urgent need for air defense systems.
During the call, Macron expressed his intention to advocate for Ukraine with allies possessing U.S.-made Patriot interceptors, which are crucial for countering high-speed ballistic missiles used by Russia. Zelenskiy has emphasized the necessity for more interceptor missiles as Russia intensifies its airstrikes.
In addition to the Patriot system, Ukraine is awaiting the Italo-French SAMP/T-NG missile defense system, which experts believe can intercept ballistic missiles, although it has yet to be tested in combat. Macron also expressed his condolences regarding a recent Russian drone strike in Kryvyi Rih that resulted in multiple casualties. He reaffirmed France's commitment to enhancing military support for Ukraine, including the provision of interceptor missiles.
