Maddy McDaniel Withdraws from South Carolina University and Basketball Team
Maddy McDaniel, a point guard for the South Carolina women's basketball team, has officially withdrawn from the university and will not return to the team. This decision comes less than a month after she initially stepped away for mental health reasons.
McDaniel announced her break from the team on July 16, stating it was the best choice for her well-being. Coach Dawn Staley expressed her support for McDaniel's decision and reiterated the team's respect for her choice. Staley acknowledged McDaniel's contributions to the program and wished her well in her future endeavors.
McDaniel's departure leaves the Gamecocks with 14 players on their roster, creating an opportunity for the team to add a new player. The team is set to begin its 2026-27 season against Maryland on November 2 in Paris, France.
