Maeve Plouffe Escapes Collision During Tour of Britain Women
During the first stage of the Tour of Britain Women, Australian cyclist Maeve Plouffe experienced a near miss with a car while attempting to rejoin the peloton after a puncture. The incident occurred at a roundabout, prompting her to express her concerns about rider safety on social media.
Plouffe, who rides for O'Shea Red Chilli Bikes, noted that while she was still close to the race convoy, cars from the public were approaching from multiple directions. She later felt safer with the moto escort. Her comments come in the wake of a tragic incident involving the death of British rider Fin Tarling, who was killed in a collision last week.
In response to Plouffe's remarks, Jonathan Day, events director of British Cycling Ventures, stated that they are taking her experience seriously and are reviewing the situation to ensure rider safety remains a priority. The second stage of the race faced its own challenges, including road blockages and a crash involving several riders, but concluded with Lorena Wiebes maintaining her lead in the overall classification.
