Mahindra Aims to Catch Up in Formula E's Gen4 Era
Mahindra is entering the Gen4 era of Formula E with optimism, despite being the last manufacturer to begin testing its new car. The team acknowledges it will start the 2026-27 season at a disadvantage but believes its recent transformation and the new token system in Formula E could help it catch up.
After a significant turnaround from being the slowest team in the Gen3 era to finishing third in the 2025-26 championship, Mahindra faced challenges in developing its Gen4 car. The company received board approval for the project in November, while rivals had already begun testing their prototypes. Supplier issues delayed Mahindra's testing schedule, pushing it to mid-July before the car was first tested.
Team principal Frederic Bertrand emphasized the importance of reliability in the development process, which has been a focus since testing began. Mahindra plans to participate in a combined test with other manufacturers in October, ahead of the official pre-season running in November. Bertrand remains confident that the team can adapt quickly despite the initial time disadvantage, thanks to the new upgrade system that allows for quicker adjustments.
