Makhachev Criticized for Corner Work During Injury Incident
Islam Makhachev has come under scrutiny from a medical professional for his actions while cornering teammate Magomed Magomedov during a fight at PFL Tampa.
During the match against Daniel Marcos, Magomedov appeared to dislocate his shoulder. Makhachev attempted to reposition the joint between rounds, but the injury persisted, leading to Magomedov's decision to withdraw before the third round.
Dr. Brian Sutterer, a sports physician, criticized Makhachev's approach, suggesting it serves as a poor example for treating shoulder injuries. Prior to this incident, Makhachev successfully defended his welterweight title against Ian Garry at UFC 330. Magomedov is expected to compete again later this year in the PFL playoffs.
