Makhachev Gains Muscle and Focuses on Welterweight Title Defense
Islam Makhachev has increased his weight by 11 pounds of muscle since winning the UFC welterweight title and has decided not to return to the lightweight division. His coach, Javier Mendez, confirmed this development, stating that Makhachev feels more comfortable at welterweight.
The current champion will defend his title against Ian Garry at UFC 330 on August 15 in Philadelphia. Makhachev previously held the lightweight title, successfully defending it four times before moving up to welterweight.
Mendez noted that Makhachev has transformed his physique since the transition, indicating that he prefers competing at this weight class. Although he had previously considered a move to middleweight, he has since focused on contenders within the welterweight division.
