Makhachev Responds to Dvalishvili's Flag Criticism
Islam Makhachev, the UFC welterweight champion, has responded to criticism from Merab Dvalishvili regarding the display of the Russian flag following his victory at UFC 330.
After successfully defending his title against Ian Garry, Makhachev's team showcased the Russian flag during the celebration. Dvalishvili, who previously lost his bantamweight title to Petr Yan, argued that the flag display was inappropriate due to restrictions related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Makhachev remarked that Dvalishvili has shown resentment towards his accomplishments and noted that Yan had raised the same flag after defeating Dvalishvili. Yan is set to defend his bantamweight title against Dvalishvili in a trilogy fight at UFC 333 on October 24 in Abu Dhabi. Makhachev holds a record of 29-1, while Dvalishvili stands at 21-5 ahead of the upcoming match.
