Makhachev Selects Prates as Top Challenger for Title Defense

Islam Makhachev has named Carlos Prates as the most deserving challenger for his next welterweight title defense. This announcement came after Makhachev successfully defended his title against Ian Garry at UFC 330 in Philadelphia.

During the Paramount+ post-fight show, Makhachev highlighted Prates' ongoing participation in fights as a key reason for his selection over other contenders. He noted that Shavkat Rakhmonov has been inactive due to injuries, while Michael Morales has not fought recently despite being unbeaten.

Prates, who holds a record of 24-7, has achieved four consecutive finishes since his loss to Garry in April 2025, defeating notable fighters such as Geoff Neal and Leon Edwards. The UFC has yet to confirm Makhachev's next title defense.
