Makhachev Selects Prates for Next Title Shot

Islam Makhachev has indicated that he prefers Carlos Prates as the next contender for his welterweight title, following Ian Garry. The UFC champion stated that Prates deserves the opportunity over Michael Morales, who has not fought since his knockout victory over Sean Brady last November.

Makhachev is scheduled to defend his title against Garry at UFC 330 on August 15 in Philadelphia, with Morales as the official backup. The champion raised concerns about Morales' inactivity and suggested that he should compete against top contenders like Prates or Shavkat Rakhmonov to solidify his position as the number-one contender.

Makhachev previously won the welterweight title by defeating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322, while Prates also achieved a stoppage victory over Della Maddalena in their subsequent matchup. Makhachev's upcoming fight against Garry will take place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.
