Malik Beasley Engages in Plea Negotiations Over Sports Gambling Charges
Malik Beasley, a veteran guard in the NBA, is currently in plea negotiations with lawyers from the Department of Justice concerning federal charges linked to a sports gambling scheme during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2023/24 season.
Beasley was indicted in June on multiple charges, including sports betting, money laundering, and wire fraud. Although he initially pleaded not guilty, recent court records suggest he is considering changing his plea, with a final decision expected early next week.
The indictment alleges that Beasley manipulated prop bets related to his performance in specific games against teams such as the Cavaliers and Hornets. He played 79 games for the Bucks that season before signing with the Pistons, where he had a successful 2024/25 season. However, his potential three-year contract with the Pistons was jeopardized by the federal investigation. Beasley is among several former NBA players indicted in this case, which has also implicated Ed Davis, who allegedly assisted in the gambling scheme.
