Manchester City Re-signs Goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley
Manchester City is set to re-sign goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley for £27 million this summer. Trafford, a graduate of the City Football Academy, originally joined Burnley in 2023 for £15 million.
The decision to bring Trafford back comes as City aims to enhance its homegrown player presence and refresh its goalkeeping options. Although the buyback clause was set at £40 million, the agreed fee is lower, making Trafford the most expensive British goalkeeper in history.
This transfer could lead to changes in City's goalkeeping lineup, with reports suggesting that either Ederson or Stefan Ortega-Moreno may leave the club. While Ederson was initially expected to depart, recent updates indicate he might stay for the final year of his contract, leaving Ortega likely to exit instead. Trafford's addition aligns with City's need to meet homegrown quotas and positions him as a potential future first-choice goalkeeper.
