Manchester City Seeks Replacement for Rodri Following Transfer to Barcelona
Manchester City is on the lookout for a new midfielder following Rodri's recent transfer to Barcelona for £65 million. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the club's intention to find a replacement for the Spain captain, who had a significant impact during his seven seasons at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d'Or and four Premier League titles, scored the decisive goal in the 2023 Champions League final. He has signed a four-year contract with Barcelona after leading Spain to a World Cup victory this summer. Despite being offered a contract extension by City, negotiations did not lead to an agreement.
Maresca emphasized the importance of effective recruitment to replace key players, recalling past transitions within the team. As the transfer window approaches its end, City is also engaged in discussions to bring in new talent, including Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, while Tottenham has agreed to a £75 million deal for winger Savinho.
