Maple Leafs Dress Seven Defencemen Against Avalanche

The Toronto Maple Leafs will feature seven defencemen, including Nick Blankenburg, in their lineup against the Colorado Avalanche, shortening their forward group to 11 players.

In a strategic move, the Toronto Maple Leafs are set to dress seven defencemen for their game against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. This decision allows Nick Blankenburg to make his debut with the Maple Leafs, facing his former team.

Blankenburg, who previously played for the Avalanche, joined the Maple Leafs on a one-year contract after impressing during a tryout at training camp. Coach Jim Hiller noted that Blankenburg is eager to play, especially against Colorado, and that the team will adjust its forward lineup to accommodate the extra defenceman.

This marks the first time the Maple Leafs have dressed seven defencemen since December 2023. Hiller also mentioned that while this setup can disrupt defensive pairings, it allows for more flexibility in ice time distribution among players.
