Maple Leafs GM Discusses Team's Progress and Potential Trades
CALGARY — Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka met with reporters at the Saddledome to discuss the team's four-game winning streak and ongoing roster changes. Chayka, who has been in his role for less than six months, has made significant adjustments, including nine trades and the addition of 11 new players.
Chayka emphasized the need to enhance the team's defensive play, noting that while trades have been discussed, internal improvements are also being observed. He mentioned the potential for calling up young defenceman Ben Danford, who is currently developing in the American Hockey League. Chayka also provided insights into the progress of rookie Gavin McKenna, highlighting his development and the coaching staff's approach to managing his ice time.
In addition to discussing player performance, Chayka addressed the status of injured players, including Chris Tanev, who is recovering well, and John Tavares, who is skating individually. Max Domi remains out indefinitely following back surgery. Chayka expressed confidence in the team's direction and the relationships forming within the locker room.
