Maracana Stadium to Host Opening and Final of 2027 Women's World Cup
The Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro will serve as the venue for the opening match and the final of the Women's World Cup in 2027, as announced by FIFA.
Brazil, the first South American country to host the tournament, will play the opening match on June 24 against an opponent yet to be determined. The Maracana, which has a capacity of 73,000, previously hosted the final of the 2014 men's World Cup.
During the group stage, Brazil will also compete in Sao Paulo and Brasilia as part of the 32-team tournament taking place across eight cities in Brazil. The Maracana is renowned for its historical significance, having hosted the 1950 men's World Cup final and the 2014 final where Germany triumphed over Argentina.
